What to Do if Your Steelhead Spinner Blade isn't Working Properly

Check the clevice. If it's bent, fix it with a pair of needle-nosed pliers. The clevice attaches the blade to the wire shaft.

If the current is really slow, switch to a wider blade. It'll catch more water. If it's cupped at the tip... that will help as well.

Also, I'll crease my spinner blade length-wise sometimes as well. This will make a difference.

These are tips I've learned over the years that will hopefully help you out.

There's still some salmon and steelhead spinners that are built with the "flat" clevice. Make sure your spinner is not. It doesn't spin as freely as the steelhead and salmon spinner clevices in our photos.
