Make Sure Your Steelhead Spinner is not too Heavy for Low Water Summer Steelhead Fishing Conditions

Low, clear water Summer steelhead fishing conditions

I feel that many of the store-bought steelhead spinners are too heavy for fishing low, warm, clear water Summer Steelhead fishing conditions.

The steelhead spinners I build for water that is really low and clear only have enough weight to successfully cast my lure.

I simply use a tiny piece of 1/8” hollow core pencil lead. I add lure tape for the weighted body color I prefer.

IF the steelhead lure isn't heavy enough, I simply attach a tiny split shot onto my leader about 18” above my steelhead spinner.

I hope this helps. If there's something you'd like to add... please do!

Properly Weighted Summer Steelhead Spinners

Thanks for your contribution!

You've made some really great points :-)

I wanted to add that if your Summer Steelhead lure is improperly weighted...

You'll snag bottom frequently, dulling your hooks and spooking the low water, conditioned Summer Steelhead.

Furthermore... an over-weighted salmon or steelhead lure will not function properly.

If you or others have something you'd like to add... feel free to do so.
